Global Friendships, Sharing Knowledge
Together we can figure out how to help each other.
The world abounds with creative ideas and innovative approaches for supporting older adults and people with disabilities. By learning from one another, we discover new perspectives, new possibilities, and new ways to strengthen our communities. With that belief, we continue to build friendships and share knowledge across borders.
The Social Welfare International Exchange Program is a citizen-led volunteer initiative with members in Japan and around the world. Since its founding in 1984, the program has connected people interested in social welfare, creating opportunities to learn from one another by sharing knowledge, experiences, and practical ideas.
Over the years, we have organized more than 100 international study exchanges. Through these experiences, participants have gained fresh insights, expanded their understanding, and formed lasting friendships across cultures and borders. Today, in addition to overseas study visits, our network continues to grow through regular Zoom exchanges and local gatherings.
Independent of any particular religion or organization, the program is sustained by volunteers and supported in part through donations from members and friends of the program.
Oct 2024: Asako and Kanae visited Ohio to exchange ideas on supporting older adults and people with disabilities. The visit was made possible through the generous support of the Athens Health Department team.
